For Hours It Flashes On

It flickers,
The light,
In the cloudy dark sky.

Now quickly.
Now brightly.
Now softly.

It shimmers on the waters;
Nearly lights up the night sky.
Soundless and bright—
These flashes of white,
Low bursts of yellow.
Piercing and pulsing like a strobe in the sky.

It casts these shades of gray to the far-off horizon
And all across the waters
It flashes on, gloriously furious,
For hours.

Nearer,
The wind rustles the pine trees,
And the stars burst forth in beauty
Ahead of a storm that never reaches this shore.

Grace and peace be ours in abundance as we marvel at God’s creation and the forces within it.  May we find that we meet Him there in the midst of our awe.

Giving Thanks

I'm giving thanks to God today for...
A wonderful time away in Voyageurs National Park;
The four Newbery Medal books that entertained us our drive;
The quiet of the Northwoods;
The sound of water lapping on the lakeshore;
Bald eagles calling out and the sound of cormorant wings flapping over head;
Wild rice in the wild;
Beautiful lightning storms over the lake in the distance;
Days on the shore of Kabetogama Lake reading;
Conversations with--rangers, travelers, family and Jason;
Learning about the French-Canadian voyageurs and the lumber industry of the park;
Time with family;
Safely returning home.

Grace and peace be ours in abundance as we learn to give thanks for his goodness in all things.

How Majestic Is Your Name

"Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" Psalm 8:1

 This week Jason and I are enjoying a little bit of God's marvelous creation.

I will not be posting any new content this week.  However, I will be posting a few of my favorite posts from the first few months of this new journey of blogging.  Some are posts that you seemed to enjoy; some are posts that surprised me by what came out as I wrestled through my thoughts; and all of them are near and dear to my heart.  I hope you will enjoy them.

Look for a new post with pictures of where we've been next week.  I look forward to sharing them with you!

Grace and peace be yours in abundance!

P.S.  These photos were taken by Jason and I a few years ago at Glacier National Park in Montana.

Worship Well

I awoke Tuesday, captured by the beauty of sunrise with words of praise on my lips.  I was struck by how the sun in its rising and its setting worships its Creator well.  It does what it was meant to do.  Day after day.  I ran to grab my notebook and scribbled out a few lines.

I saw the break of dawn today.
It was a soft peach invading the gray.
Come to herald praise at the start of this new day,
For the Creator God who set the sun in place.
Let us, too, join in the refrain—
As we go about our work
And in all we do—
Living our lives as worship.

Grace and peace be ours in abundance as we stop to notice the works of His hands.  As we marvel.  As we respond to His glory, mindful that all we do is worship.

Let’s worship well.

Jessica :)
